Joshua is the first book in the Bible named after an individual. His original name was Hoshea, which means “Salvation” (Numbers 13:8). However, Moses changed his name to Joshua, which means “Jehovah is Salvation” (Numbers 13:16).
The Greek equivalent of his name is Jesus and throughout this book we see many types in Joshua’s life that point to Jesus. The theme of this book centers on the children of Israel crossing the Jordan river and taking possession of the promised land. It’s all about conquest. It’s all about conquering the enemy of God and taking possession of the promises of God!
Throughout this book, we will find ourselves encouraged in our walk with the Lord. As the Bible tells us in Romans 8:37, "we are more that conquerors through Him who loved us!”
